Second Best

We now live in a world where knowledge is merely a few clicks away. At no other point in history have we had the ability to gather so much information on any given subject; and yet two things are lacking that are keys in order to take advantage of this wealth of information.

Wisdom and Discernment!

Sounds simple enough on the surface but it goes much deeper. God has set up this world to run by spiritual laws and principles. Some would say it's cause and effect.

Let’s first define what is meant by “second best.” It is defined as the next option…after the best; a less adequate and less desirable alternative.”

We make many decisions on a daily basis mentally, as well as those we choose to put into action. When you think about it…it's amazing how God has given everyone an amazing ability to think and reason. But there comes a point when we choose to settle for second best in our quest without really knowing it.

You see, we are creatures of habit by nature and we use experience as a measuring stick of how and where we desire to go. This has some very good applications and has served us well in many areas.

However, we fail to take advantage of the greatest resource of wisdom and knowledge that has ever existed. God created all things, and has given us our ability…but that can only take us so far.

We must tap into his heart in order to take things deeper than we thought possible. But the only true way, is to surrender our hearts and minds to his Lordship. Only then can we reach new levels as he will give us insights we could not think of on our own.

I Am the Way

As Jesus tells his disciples that He is the way, there are multiple meanings involved.

First, He addresses our very human instinct to know where we are going before we start a journey.

The disciples also wanted to know the next step, the next turn, the ultimate destination of where this journey in faith would lead them.

Today, when we have a long trip ahead of us, we want to turn on our GPS and get an idea of how long it will take and the roads we will travel on to get there. We check our GPS to determine the best, fastest routes and then start our journey. The disciples were looking for the same kind of information.

However, Jesus does makes it clear that they (or we) won’t know the defined way we are supposed to travel in our lives if we don’t recognize that by knowing and trusting in His word daily, and walking in the truth that HE is the way to abundance in life.

When we continue to have a life-giving connection to Him, as a branch is connected to the vine, and a vine to the branch, we will know our defined course, and can rest in the comfort – that he will lead us exactly where we need to go, as we walk in him.

Jesus established, that knowing Him, is not only the ultimate meaning and fulfillment of life on earth, but the only way to really know the God of heaven.

He won’t be your backup plan!
