Loving Instruction

—Dec. 12.2022

Whoever loves instruction and discipline—loves knowledge…but he who hates reproof and correction is stupid. (brutish)

Wisdom tells us to keep learning and to love instruction and knowledge; but to learn, you must love discipline. It is stupid to hate correction.

A humble willingness to be taught (instructed) shows a true love of knowledge. God’s Knowledge! When we reject God’s knowledge—He says: “My people do without-because of lack of knowledge, which they should have kept alive in their hearts. The knowledge of God is life eternal. As one rejects the true knowledge of God, they incline themself to calf-worship, (a supreme act of apostasy, and the rejection of the true faith), and will vacillate—and start respecting the wisdom of Baal, (a demon), and then start conniving at moral offences.

Life is filled with trial and error, however, most people learn from their mistakes.

  • A bruised knee is adequate motivation for a child learning to ride a bicycle. He gains the desire to practice more, so he can balance properly.

  • A student learns what is wrong and what is right, from mistakes in homework assignments and exams .

  • A child receives correction from a parent for misbehaving, and he changes the misbehavior.

  • Everyone faces a learning process when starting a new job, learning what performance is acceptable. He goes on to correct what is unacceptable and to do what is expected.

Those are all natural and beneficial ways of responding to "discipline.”

A wise person takes correction and criticism under consideration

The contrast to this-is the one who refuses to hear those corrections. Such a reaction marks the person as "stupid." The term used here implies someone with an animal's uncontrolled and simplistic mind. Those who refuse to be corrected are like unreasoning animals (2 Peter 2:12). They may be highly intelligent, and/or well-educated, but the person who refuses to be corrected is inarguably "stupid," in that sense.

Let us love the divine wisdom of the Word! For they bring with them—life, to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. They are the secret to life for those who find them. The BONUS? They bring health to their whole body.

Be very careful about what you think. Your thoughts run your life.
